Upgrades can increase the value of weapons, armors and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into armor, weapons and trinkets in order to provide an extra stat boost or effect when they're used. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading, or looting. Some upgrades have special cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components are only available to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to a blue level before a component can be applied. Like other mods, upgrade components can only be used once and can't be used multiple times or replaced by new upgrades. Infusions and enrichments are a particular type of upgrade component that is designed for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment, as well as some of the non-ascended back items. Infusions and enrichments are recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

The player can get a maximum of five boost upgrades at a time; each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-tier version of the item will be available in the next reset. The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it is likely that the item will become obsolete or even break when the upgrade is unsuccessful. Glyphs

Glyphs are upgrade elements which can be put in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of nodes within a radius, and include any existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded in many ways, and we recommend getting them up to level 15 as soon as you can.

You will often find in the endgame that placing Glyphs is the best way to upgrade your equipment. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded to level 15 and give a significant boost to your power on the Paragon Board.

The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and put back in place without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can choose to replace it with a Glyph of the same rank, or a higher rank, which will increase the overall value of the glyph.

Glyphs can be found in the Black Lion Trading Post as part of the Gem Store bundle or purchase the glyphs with certain tools that allow unlimited use as well as during Faction Crypt Raids. Every Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have the desired Glyphs then you need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph will grant a distinct bonus that boosts the stats of a particular set of nodes in the vicinity of the Glyph. Glyphs will boost all nodes connected to them, therefore it is best to place Glyphs in strategic locations on the Graph. This will increase the impact. Leveling

The system of upgrading items allows players to improve the stats of specific items by putting upgraded components in them. This is often referred to as "upping".
