From Shiapedia
What is an Item Upgrader in Pokemon Go?
A transparent device that allows certain Pokemon species evolve. It was created by Silph Co.
The item upgrader adds a new widget to the top of the Angel and Cash Upgrade windows. This Manager costs 33 billion Angel Investors and offers no gaming benefit other than making it easier to view and buy upgrades.
Boosters
With an item upgrader, you can get many bonuses. These can include stats and additional bonuses. These bonuses can be used on armor, weapons and trinkets. They can be used to boost the capabilities of a character, or add a new element of variety to their appearance.
The World of Warcraft upgrade system allows players to upgrade their equipment by paying currency to an upgrader for their item. The system was introduced in Mists of Pandaria and was expanded with the introduction of Warlords of Draenor. It's a great way to increase the quality of your equipment, allowing you avoid the tedious grind of questing and avoid many wipes in Mythicand dungeons.
If an item level upgrade is upgraded its basic type will change. The upgrade of a normal item creates an Exceptional item and upgrading an Exceptional item will result in an Elite version of the same base item. The item will retain all of its prior upgrade statistics however, it will also receive an additional benefit from its new base type. This bonus will be randomly chosen from the following categories: the chance to acquire a weapon with an increased damage range or an enhanced reload speed or a chance to gain a higher max defense roll.
The number of upgrades you make will determine the amount of extras you get. Each upgrade will increase the extras in question by a factor of one up to a maximum of three. Each upgrade will also boost the stats in the main menu by +1.
Some upgrades also provide an additional random boost in addition to stat boosts. These boosts are useful and should be taken into consideration when deciding what items to upgrade. Some of these boosts are only useful in specific builds (such as Whistan's shield in FB sorcs) while others could provide a great deal of value to certain collectors.
Some items have a built-in boos which is less useful when upgraded. For instance the Goldwrap offers an additional slots for potion. These are often upp'd to add value to the perfect or nearly perfect item.
Costs
Upgrades are accompanied by some associated costs. The first is the cost for the upgrade. This cost can be expensive and is dependent on the new value of the item and the number of perks it receives. Upgrades to higher levels (such as Explorer to Champion or Veteran to Heroic) can be costly.
The other is the cost of the materials needed for an upgrade. The items used are usually either Power Dices (dropped by monsters 21and up) or Minerals and Erons (obtainable through completing specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor quests). The quantity of these items required can be seen in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.
The process of upgrading an item is an intricate process that takes time. Depending on the size of the upgrade, it could take as long as 8 hours. The upgraded item's base stats are calculated based on the item's new ilvl bonuses, perks, and other properties. This calculation determines the new Armor Class bonuses, damage dice, as well as other vital statistics. In some cases, an upgrade can grant additional perks. These perks are listed on a table.
In rare instances, the upgrade will only replace the most expensive bonuses. Sometimes, the upgrader will make other changes to an item, for example, changing the damage type of a weapon or adding or removing an operative or unwieldy property. The cost for these changes is determined by the item's new ilvl, and it could require a specific material, such as adamantine alloy.
Success Rate
The upgrade of an item is dependent on chance. Like any random system, there is a possibility that it will not succeed. There are several methods to increase your odds of success. These include the use of an item known as an Upgrade Pity or the addition of extra items to the upgrade.
An Upgrade Pity is a product you can purchase from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the odds of an upgrade's success by some percentage. This is similar to the luck bonus some items have, but is more solid. It can be added to any weapons or armor and can be used three times.
You can also add other materials to the upgrade to increase the chance of success. These are displayed in a window above the + button. However, there are limitations to this, and the maximum amount of material that can be added is displayed right above the + button in the UI.
A Blacksmith Blessing, or an upgraded version thereof, can be used to boost the odds of an upgrade being successful. This item is useful when your piece of equipment or weapon is near or has reached the top level of its tier. This item lets you upgrade the equipment to the next tier without the risk of breaking.
If an upgrade fails, the system will be returned to its original state. This is typically a break, but can also be a downgrade. Keep an upgrade in reserve until you reach the highest level for an item.
Kafra offers a variety of items that can be used to increase the likelihood of an upgrade succeeding. For instance upgrading an equipment using HD Oridecon or HD Elunium repeatedly will give you an increased chance of success. The rate of success will be increased if you increase your chances of receiving a Double Mint by Shoe-Minting five times.
Failure Rate
The item upgrader allows players to add a second slot on their equipment. The slots can be used to upgrade an item level upgrade or apply an enhancement. It is important to remember that not all items can be upgraded. The rank of an item upgrade will determine the rate at which it can be upgraded and enhanced. The higher the rank of an item, the more Zeny and items will be required to upgrade it.
This system is expensive particularly if you are seeking top-of-the-line equipment. Upgrades to armor and weapons can cost up to 100,000 z or 100 Carnium. The rate of success decreases as you progress in rank. However, you can use cash shop items to increase your chances of upgrading your item successfully.
Normal Upgrade is a fundamental upgrade that can only be used on armor, weapons and bikes. It requires different grades of core, depending on the type of item. Generally, lower grade items will require low grade cores, while higher grade items will require more expensive ones.
To carry out a normal upgrade you must first have the appropriate number of cores. Once you have them then click the button next to the item you want to upgrade. The upgrade window will show a percentage indicator of your odds of success. This percentage is determined by the upgrade level of the Best item upgrader and the kind you have selected.
You can also select an item that is protected by a safeguard your item in the event of a failure. The safeguard is not free however, the cost will be lower than the cost of a new item. The safeguard can only be used only once per upgrade and will last until it is used again.
The interface for the item upgrader is somewhat difficult, but it's isn't impossible to navigate. The main menu appears on the left side and the upgrade window appears on the right. The arrows on the left side of the UI depict the various stages of the upgrade process. If you're not sure what you're doing, you can hit the question mark for assistance. The process of upgrading can take up to five minutes.
