World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its base stats increase in value. This is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be modified to upgrade an item.
It is also used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can view their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can evaluate the item level. It's a sign of the item's condition and its quality. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done by using the level of the item.
The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the item's full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is calculated. One theory states that the level of an item is determined by a formula that calculates the worth of an Best item upgrade's stats actually are. It takes into account the fact that various perks have different value, and also that sockets have gems that increase the value of the item overall. This can result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is typically very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.
It's not the only factor that influences the value of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped may alter its stats. For example, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher value.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification that are in turn enhanced by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item level upgrade. The rarity of an item determines the upgrade cost. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, while an item with rare tiers will be upgraded several times, at higher costs.
Another method to alter the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to provide items with extra damage or other special abilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to differentiate them by adding a name.
Presently, all affixes are able to be modified by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by circling arrows. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.
Players can upgrade an item with a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or the result of a God roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. But as with base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a chance to upgrade their equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more valuable in the early game than later ones as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading that increase with each new level of item. These can also be increased by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.
Moreover there are certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available in the shop or created using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade Item or to stop players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.
The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of successfully upgrading the item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of a failed upgrade cannot exceed 100%.
The luck of an item level upgrade may influence the success of an upgrade. All items have an initial success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects could be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
