World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it can boost the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.
The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its base stats are increased in value. This is the sum of all the upgraded benefits (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced in order for the Item Upgrader Kit to be upgraded.
Item level is a widely used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear as PvP is restricted at lower levels. The average item level can be found on the character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell equipment players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it will be able to deal. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a seller.
On PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories on how the calculation of an item's level is carried out. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different values, and also that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is typically close to the actual Blizzard level of the item.
This is not the only factor that influences the ilvl of an item. The level of the area where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For instance it can increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
item upgrading stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat mods, which are themselves enhanced by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time, while an item that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.
All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items, which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other options for rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item, or an item that has a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to reroll the attaches, or select which stats to enhance. But, like base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful for early game runs, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields, and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on their material type) to increase the value of 40 luck or to boost the luck of the item to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that is able to deal damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade is unsuccessful.
The rate of success of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage is the chances of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limits to how much the success rates can be improved and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..
The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of the item. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above the items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
