WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.
Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.
The cost of upgrading will depend on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment from other sources. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item upgrading from another player will costs 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon, and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the Best item upgrade's next level of upgrade, if there are enough materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current item level upgrade level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.
Many locations offer item upgraders, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases according to the number of items that are being upgraded. It can also be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. When a player has an upgrade to a particular level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even when they are part of another set of gear.
The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced also, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.
Crests
Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.
First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and simplest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, based on the kind of equipment being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.
The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their gear up to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters, rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.
Another notable change is that crests only have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is particularly true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
